The Department of Industrial Chemistry, Ebonyi State University, is among the pioneer departments of the Faculty of Applied and Natural Sciences (FANS) IN 1998/99 academic session.

It was established to contribute meaningfully to the industrial development and growth of Ebonyi State in particular and Nigeria at large in the areas of chemical technology and solid mineral exploration and processing because of the geo-resources potential of the State. Besides, the Department has the objectives to produce graduates in Industrial Chemistry as well as provide service courses for other departments in the Health, Medical, Agricultural, Physical, Biological, and Education Sciences.

The Department was started as a teaching institution. Through these ten years the department has produced 311 B.Sc. projects, several publications (Research papers, manuals, Books, Reports, etc) and successfully completed staff development programme under HIPACT overseas exchange programme. The Department has also made significant contributions in the studies of ground and surface water quality of Ebonyi State.

The vision of Industrial Chemistry Department Ebonyi State University, Nigeria, in the next 5 years, is to be a leading department providing excellence in Pure and Industrial Chemistry Programmes for candidates from the state, the nation and the international community.

Our Mission Statement:
To build an academically sound Department of Industrial Chemistry providing excellence in teaching, learning, research and entrepreneurial skills for graduating students so as to meet the manpower needs of the larger society.

The department is currently headed by Dr. Frank Ik. Nwabue. The department is equipped with advanced laboratory facilities such as Atomoic Absorption/Emission Spectrophotomer (AAS/ES), Computers, Uv-VIS Spectrophotometers, IR Spectrophotometer, pH meters, Electronic weighing balance, Vacuum pump, Muffle furnace, Drying oven, Coliform incubator bath, Ultra pure water deionizer, Heating mantle, Rotary shakers water deionizer, Magnetic strirer, Thermostatic water bath, etc.
